The Federal Government Girls College Bauchi was established in 1973, courtesy of Decree No 24 of 1973, which the then General Yakubu Gowon military led government enacted in order to increase the number of unity schools in Nigeria. The school was first located at the site where Government Girls College Bauchi is along Maiduguri Road, before it was moved to its permanent site at Gombe Road Bauchi, it extend over an area of about thirty (30) acres
